Common Questions & Answers
What is the Remote Control TV app?
It is an iOS app that turns your iPhone or iPad into a universal remote control for TVs and media players over your Wi-Fi network. You can change channels, adjust volume, enter text, and access advanced Smart TV features.
How does the app connect to my TV?
The app connects to your TV or media player via your home Wi-Fi network. No extra hardware is needed—just ensure both your iOS device and your TV are on the same network.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No, basic features work without an account. An account is only needed to sync favorite channels and back up settings to the cloud.
How do I cast photos and videos to the TV?
Open the Cast tab in the app, choose the photos or videos you want to share, and start casting them to your TV.
The app can't find my device (general checklist).
For iOS:
- Settings → Privacy → Local Network → "Remote Control TV" = ON
For Samsung TVs:
- Settings → General → External Device Manager → Device Connection Manager → Access = Allow
For LG TVs:
- Settings → Network → Home Network Setup → Remote Device/Renderer = ON
For Sony TVs:
- Settings → Network → IP Control → Authentication = None, Simple IP Control = ON
- Settings → Network → Remote Start = ON
For Roku Devices:
- Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps → Network access = Permissive
For Fire TV / Android TV:
- Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → ADB debugging = ON
I use VPN or my phone is on a guest network—will the app work?
Both devices must be on the same local network. Disable VPN or switch your phone to the same Wi-Fi as the TV. If your router has a separate "guest" network, move both devices to the main network (e.g. 192.168.1.x).
Volume or mute buttons do not respond.
Enable HDMI-CEC on your TV (brand names: Anynet+, Simplink, Bravia Sync, etc.). This allows external devices to control volume. You will find it in Settings → General → External Device Manager (Samsung) or similar path.
How do I create macros or favourite channels?
Macros (one-tap sequence) and favourites are premium features. Tap the "+" on the macro page, record your steps, then assign them to a custom button. Favourites are added by long-pressing any channel in the TV guide and selecting "Add to Favourites". Data syncs automatically if you are logged in.
How can I cancel my subscription or restore purchases?
Open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Remote Control TV → Cancel. To restore purchases on a new device, open the app → Settings → "Restore Purchases".
Is the Remote Control TV app safe to use?
Yes. The app connects your iPhone to your TV over your own home Wi-Fi network. No account is required for basic features, and the app does not collect or share your personal data. The connection happens only between your phone and your TV on your local network.
Does the app work without internet or Wi-Fi?
The app uses your local Wi-Fi network to find and control your TV, so no cellular data or internet connection is required. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network — an internet connection alone is not enough.
Why does my Sony TV show too many devices in the list?
On your Sony TV go to Settings → Network → Home Network Setup → Renderer → Renderer Access Control → Custom Settings → Delete All. Then try connecting again.
